Junior Sunbelt Team Selection
Junior Sunbelt Team Selection The Junior Sunbelt Team will be selected from the top performers at the MHSBCA showcase. From these players, 18- 20 will be selected based on positions played and pitchers needed. There will be a minimum of 3 catchers and 10 pitchers. Some players may be selected as pitchers only. To be eligible for Team Missouri, players must have attended one of the MHSBCA Show-Case programs. After each showcase coaches meet, confer, and begin to develop a list of players who are potential invitees. In most cases, players should receive a call within 2 weeks of the final showcase if they have been selected. If a players chooses to go, the player will have a $100 non-refundable deposit due by October 1 with the remaining balance due on May 1. Usually it is $200 total (this could change if we go to an additional showcase style tournament we are working on as this information is being updated).
So what do players get in return for the $200 fee?
- Opportunity to play in front of many college and professional level scouts. (See list of scouts directly spoken to by Team Missouri coaching staff in 2007. The list posted below does not represent all the scouts at the Jr. Sunbelt Series).
- Arkansas, Kansas State, Crowder C.C., Arizona, Southern Mississippi, Arkansas Fort Smith C.C, Paris (TX) J.C., Louisiana State, Alabama-Birmingham, Alabama, Kentucky, Auburn, Georgia Tech, Eastern Oklahoma State J.C., Missouri State, Texas Christian, Coastal Carolina, Arkansas-Little Rock, Kennesaw State, Georgia Southern, Seminole (OK) J.C., Georgia, Missouri, New Mexico, Houston, Central Oklahoma, Louisiana-Monroe.
- Pro Scouts that were given player info packets to: Tampa Bay, Cleveland, Atlanta, Cincinnati, Detroit, Seattle
- Opportunity to compete against some of the best talent in the United States.
- Follow-up email with a player profile program attached is sent to every D-1 school in Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, and Arkansas as well as all Big 12 conference schools.
- Players are provided with two uniforms during their stay in Oklahoma. Players keep bat bag, workout gear, t-shirt, cap, and an authentic Team Missouri jersey. (Pants, and specified color of jerseys are returned to Team Missouri coaching staff). If available, coaching staff may present players as a courtesy with a CD of pictures and other types of media to help preserve memories of their week at the Sunbelt.
- Lodging: Players are required to stay in the homes of volunteer “host families.” The hospitality of the people in this community is remarkable and a great experience for all involved. Host families feed, wash laundry, transport, and generally provide for players.
Team Missouri will be coached and managed by a select group of volunteers who are members of the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association. Parents and players should keep in mind that while this is a great opportunity for players to perform before many college and professional scouts, the Sunbelt Classic is a competition with teams from 7 other states and Ontario, Canada. Game and player management will be at the coaching staff’s discretion. Players selected to be on the roster of Team Missouri can expect that their role on the team may be different than they are accustomed to in their high school or summer program back home. Any type of negative activity that takes place that is a distraction or contrary to the directives of the coaching staff will not be tolerated.
The Sunbelt Classic includes two teams from Oklahoma as well as California, Arizona, Texas, Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi, and Ontario, Canada. The Sunbelt Classic is one of the premier junior baseball tournaments in the country.
